UFC 117 Results – Chael Sonnen Talks Trash And Taps Out, Silva Keeps Belt
After all week of hearing Chael Sonnen and his trash talk to the media about Anderson Silva, Lance Armstrong and other strange things, tonight was the night that he can prove his words. However, at the end of the night, Sonnen couldn’t do anything else but talk. He wussed out and lost via tap-out submission to the best pound-for-pound MMA fighter in the world, Anderson “The Spider” Silva.
In what appeared to be as one of the greatest upset of all-time, Sonnen had his chances. By all means, Sonnen won the first 4 round in impressive fashion. But it was the Championship Round (5th) that proved costly for him. After being on his back for most of the match, Anderson Silva, got Sonnen in a triangle choke. The choke was not tight but it proved costly for Sonnen as he tried to escape it. He moved forward and that made the choke even tighter. Within a few seconds, Sonnen chickened out and tapped out for the Silva win.
It was later revealed that Anderson Silva suffered from a rib injury. His doctor advised him to not take the fight but he did it anyways. The rib injury almost cost him dearly. It limited Silva’s ability to kick properly as most of his kicks to the body and legs to Sonnen looked awkward and restricted.
The future for Silva is one in mystery. He has beat out every top contender in his weight group. No other fighter has shown this type of dominance since Ken Shamrock. It became apparent in this fight that if Silva had a weakness it would be to MMA fighters who has great wrestling skills and the best of that in the UFC is George St. Pierre.
