Tim Tebow Shows Promise In Denver Broncos Preseason Game But Is Years From Starting

On Sunday night in his 1st preseason NFL game, Tim Tebow made a bold statement on the field. He showed that he can play in the NFL; however, Tebow looks like he is many years away from becoming a true starter in the NFL.

Tim Tebow went 8 for 13 with 105 passing yards and an 87.5 passer rating. He rushed for his first touchdown with 3 seconds remaining in the game. He did some things right but for the most part; he did not perform at the level of a 1st round pick.

The Good Things

1)      Confidence – Tebow showed that he can take command of the offense and huddle

2)      Accuracy – Tebow is accurate (more so than Brady Quinn) but he does not lead his receivers properly. He threw a nice ball to Willis but he dropped it. The ball was not thrown to the right area. Instead of leading his wide receiver towards the end-zone, Tebow floated the ball and Willis had to change his direction and it bounced off his helmet and off his hands.

3)      Tough to tackle

4)      Playmaker

The Bad Things

1)      Reverts back to his old-style of play – All the months that took him to change his mechanics did not change a thing when pressure mounts

2)      Slow Windup, over-arched  ball release

3)      Rushing – After rushing for his 1st TD, Tebow got up slowly after getting smacked by 2 Bengals players. He needs to protect himself or risk of getting injured

4)      Lack of Patience – needs to wait for things to happen or move around to avoid the sacks. Coverage will break down eventually.

Overall, Tim Tebow had a great 1st preseason game considering that he is only a rookie. However, it is clear that he is many years away from starting as a quarterback in the NFL. He has a lot of things to fix but the future is bright for Tim Tebow and the Denver Broncos.
