Third Suspect Arrested in October Double Shooting

Modesto, CA- Modesto Police have made a third arrest in an October double shooting, which left a 15-year-old teenager dead. Two other suspects have already been arrested and are awaiting their court hearing.

On Sunday, October 14th, at about 10:45 P.M., Modesto Police officers were called to the 2100 block of Conant Avenue in northwest Modesto for a reported shooting. When officers arrived, they located a 15-year-old male shooting victim in the yard of a residence on Conant Avenue. The victim was transported to a local hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries. A second shooting victim, a 23-year-old male, later showed up at a local hospital suffering from a non-life threatening gunshot wound. He was treated for his injuries and later released.

Investigators learned the two victims were standing in front of a residence in the

2100 block of Conant Avenue when they were approached by three male suspects. The suspects within the group opened fire at the residence and at the two victims. Once the two victims were shot, the suspects ran from the scene.

Through investigation and tips from citizens, detectives learned the identity of the three suspects involved in the murder. On October 22nd, investigators arrested 25-year-old Santos Joseph Garcia and 18-year-old Brian Storment, both from Modesto. A third suspect, 31-year-old Jeremy Anthony Romero of Modesto, was believed to have fled the area and possibly fled the State. Modesto Police homicide investigators requested the assistance from the United States Marshall’s Fugitive Apprehension Team. Together, the two agencies began to follow-up on investigative leads to locate Romero.

Yesterday, Modesto Police investigators went to a residence in the city of San Lorenzo and located Romero at a relative’s home. Romero was contacted inside the residence and arrested without incident. Romero was transported back to Modesto, where he was ultimately booked into the Stanislaus County Jail. All three suspects face one count of murder and one count of attempted murder.
