Suspicious Death of Eight Cats

Ceres, California – On May 7, 2013, Ceres Police Department received a report of numerous dead cats behind a store located on the 1400 block of E. Hatch Road in Ceres. Both Animal Control and Ceres Police Officers responded, however, they did not locate the animals. Later that day, it was learned that a citizen that had been feeding feral cats in the area discovered eight cats that had suspiciously perished and buried them. The reporting party was concerned that they were possibly poisoned.

Review of the store’s surveillance footage did not reveal anything suspicious relating to the animals and a necropsy was not done to determine the cause of death due to the cats already being buried. However, our department takes animal cruelty very seriously. Maliciously torturing or killing animals is a felony and our officers are hoping someone will come forward with more information about this incident.
