Stanislaus County Fair Attendance Numbers Fails Miserably
Just as we predicted, the Stanislaus County Fair did not meet its goal of attendance. Instead they saw a drop in attendance as only about 210,000 people attended the 10-day fair this year. This represents a staggering 8% drop from last year’s numbers.
The Stanislaus County Fair officials blamed it on the economy, weather and other factors. But the real reasons are the price of admission and lack of interest on what the fair had to offer. At $12 for an adult admission, it is perhaps better to drive 60-80 minutes and attend the big fair, that is, the California State Fair in Sacramento. Also at the State Fair, food prices may be even cheaper.
The other issue is lack of interest. It seems like each year since the early 2000s, the Stanislaus County fair has decreased in quality. The stuff toys that you may win by playing one of the many games offered have diminished in quality. Also the type of people at the fair seems to be more rowdy and disruptive than ever before. All of this contributes to the attendee’s lack of interest in going to next year’s fair.
To put this retrospect, the 2010 Merced County Fair was held around the same time as both the Stanislaus County Fair and State Fair, however, in Merced, they saw an increase in attendance by 17%. A number that is fairly good for a county that is smaller and one that has Merced City as the 4th leading foreclosure city in America (Note: Modesto is 3rd in foreclosure rates).
