Ceres, California – On May 7, 2013 at approximately 7:28 PM, members of the Ceres Street Crimes Unit attempted to stop a Nissan Quest for traffic violations in the area of Steele and Mock in Ceres. The driver of the Nissan failed to stop and led the officers in a short pursuit that ended when the driver of the Nissan, 21 year old Keyes resident Ricardo Suarez collided with a light pole in the 1300 block of Richland Avenue.
Suarez and the passenger, 21 year old Modestan Valentin Perez who is a documented Sureno gang member, attempted to flee on foot but were quickly captured by officers. A loaded .45 caliber handgun and illegal drugs were seized during the incident. Ricardo Suarez was treated at a local hospital for a minor injury, released, and then booked at the Stanislaus County Jail for evading and obstructing a police officer, carrying a concealed firearm, and having a loaded firearm in public. Valentin Perez, who sustained a minor injury during the collision, was booked on an out-of-county warrant, for obstructing a police officer and for possession of concentrated cannabis.
