Modesto, CA- A distraught 16-year-old teen was arrested yesterday for attempting to kill his father and threatening to take his own life.
This incident began on Monday, September 17th, about 1:30 a.m., when Modesto Police officers were called to a residence in the 2400 block of Southfork Lane, for the report of a family dispute. Responding officers were informed a 16-year-old male who was inside the home, had armed himself with a shotgun and had threatened to shoot his father. The father was able to disarm the teen prior to officers arriving. Police officers contacted the teen and his parents at the home.
Officers learned the teen had been distraught and has a history of substance abuse. Preliminary investigation revealed the teen had been planning to kill his father and had taken steps to gather the items he needed to complete the task. Sometime in the early morning, the teen retrieved his father’s shotgun and loaded the gun with a shotgun round he had previously stolen.
As the teen waited in the living room, he was confronted by his mother, who was awakened by the noise the teen had made. The teen’s mother screamed when she saw her son with the shotgun, which woke up the teen’s father. The father exited his bedroom and as he walked into the living room, the teen pointed the shotgun at his father and threatened to kill him. The father was able to talk his son into not firing the gun. The father then disarmed his son and restrained him until the police arrived.
Police arrested the teen for attempted murder and making terrorist threats. He was booked into the Stanislaus County Juvenile Hall.
