Modesto, CA– The city of Modesto ranked first in the State of California for this summer’s National Night Out festivities.
The Modesto Police Department was notified today of achieving first place in the State of California and fourth place in the entire country (cities 100,000-299,000 in population) for their coordination of the August 6th city-wide festivities. It is estimated that over 255 neighborhoods participated in parties within the Modesto city limits.
Shortly after the August event personnel with the Modesto Police Department submitted a report to the National Association of Town Watch (NATW). The agency reviewed the submissions and made the award announcements today. A plaque will be presented at a later date.
In response to the award Modesto’s Chief of Police Galen Carroll said, “The citizens of Modesto have made it clear that they have a sense of pride and ownership of their neighborhoods. It is a great honor to receive first place and I look forward to working together with the community to continue our fight on crime.”
Several significant donors provided money and services to make the event possible including Stanislaus Area Crime Stoppers, Varni Brothers, DOT Foods, Target, and the Modesto Irrigation District. Many smaller donors also contributed to ensure this event was a success.
