Modesto Police Captain to be Top Cop for City of Livermore

Modesto, CA- On August 19, 2013, Modesto Police Captain Michael Harris will be sworn in as the Chief of Police for the City of Livermore.  

Captain Harris rose through the ranks from Police Officer to Captain during his 22 years working for the Modesto Police Department. While working his was through the ranks he also continued his education and earned a Master’s Degree in Emergency Services Administration from California State University, Long Beach.  He is also a graduate of the FBI National Academy as well as the International Association of Chiefs of Police “Leadership in Police Organizations” program. 

“Although I am excited at the prospect of this new career opportunity and challenge it is bittersweet because the Modesto Police Department is very special to me. I have worked here for over 22 years and developed many close friendships during those years. I have many fantastic memories, experiences and I received excellent training and career opportunities. MPD has been good to me and I will always be thankful for my time here,” said Captain Harris.   

“Mike’s impeccable leadership will be truly missed, he has been an integral part of the Modesto Police Department family,” said Modesto Police Chief Galen Carroll.
