Modesto DUI suspect arrested for hit and run, killed 2 year-old

Modesto, CA – The Modesto Police Department’s Traffic Unit is investigating a fatal traffic accident that occurred last night, involving a 2 year old. 

On Friday, April 12th, at about 8:31 p.m., Modesto Police officers responded to a vehicle collision involving a 2 year old girl, in the 400 block of Pine St. When officers and medical personnel arrived they found a critically injured 2 year old that had been struck by a sport utility vehicle. The 2 year old was transported by ambulance to a local hospital where she later succumbed to her injuries. Her identity will not be released at this time.

The driver of the vehicle fled to a nearby residence after the collision. He was located by officers and detained.

The preliminary investigation indicates the 2 year old girl was riding a scooter in the roadway when she was struck by the sport utility vehicle. The driver of the vehicle, Remedios Rodriguez Chaidez 40 years, from Modesto, is suspected of driving while under the influence. Chaidez was arrested for Felony Hit and Run and Felony Driving While Under the Influence. If he is found guilty, I hope they just toss him in a pool of hungry sharks, something he deserves many times over. 

The Modesto Police Department’s Traffic Unit is handling the investigation. At this point the exact cause of the collision has not been determined. Once the investigation is completed, the incident will be reviewed for any additional charges.
