New phone books are arriving in Modesto! Residents and businesses can go green and recycle old phone books by placing them in the residential green “organic” waste can or in the specially marked collection bin located downtown on 11th Street between J & K streets (available through October 30). Recycling telephone books into new ones helps save precious resources.
Did you know? For every 500 phone books recycled, the following resources are saved:
· 7,000 gallons of water
· 3.3 cubic yards of landfill space
· 17 to 31 trees
· 4,100 kilowatts of electricity
That’s enough electricity to power an average home for 6 months! Do your part – be green and recycle those phone books!
PS This is why PHONE BOOKS should be banned in the city. There are so many of them. They are useless these days with the advent of Google and GPS!
