Mitch Mustain To Stay At USC = Huge Mistake, Won’t Transfer To Tennessee Vols

Today, Mitch Mustain reiterated his allegiance to the University of Southern California (USC) football team and won’t transfer to the Tennessee Volunteers or any other programs. In a live chat that lasted about 45 minutes, a question was asked if he was going to stay at USC. His response was a simple, “Yes, I am”.

He answered some more questions regarding his summer, fall and future plans. Some of Mustain’s goals for the upcoming season and beyond are to increase his weight, become more motivated, and generally get ready for the NFL by getting better in all aspects of the game. We would like to see Mustain become the starter because he is the best quarterback at USC. He did more with what he had at Arkansas by going 8-0 in his freshman year in the best conference in college football, that is, the SEC.

Mitch Mustain’s football career did not go as expected. He has made 3 major mistakes in his football career. The first was going to Arkansas. After completing an astounding 61-2 record since his junior high school days, he transferred to a school, where he had second thoughts about. This and disagreements with the coaches at Arkansas led him to make his 2nd mistake which was transferring to an overrated USC program, who rightfully deserved their 2 year post-season ban (we think it should have been 5 years).

At USC, he showed some flashes of brilliance but he was beaten out by Mark Sanchez during his 1st year of eligibility at the university. Then came last year, where he was beaten out by highly-touted and grossly hyped-up freshman Matt Barkley, who threw for 14 interceptions in the 2009 football season.

And finally, good news arrived from the NCAA. The NCAA allowed USC players to transfer to any school and they won’t have to sit out for an entire year. This is where Mustain made his 3rd mistake. Instead of bolting to other schools like some of his teammates, Mustain has decided to stay (for now). As a result, he will serve as backup to sophomore QB Matt Barkley. He will try to make the best of his situation and will try to become the next Matt Cassel, a dream that we see him not accomplishing.  Good Luck, Mitchy.

    Dear writer of this article,

    You are and idiot.

    Regards,
Reader who wasted his time reading this crap

USC is the best? That's hilarious. USC wasn't even the best school in the Pac-10 before the NCAA applied sanctions to the program. Since the sanctions have been applied USC will be lucky to go to a bowl game…Oh wait, you can't do that either.

Mustain got beaten out for the starting spot at USC by Barkley AND Aaron Corp. Corp who is currently playing for the University of Richmond. Mustain is terrible. Arkansas won that year despite him. He threw 9 INTs in 8 games, roughly on pace for 15 if he would have played the whole season.

  • modestopress

yeah, i guess mustain sucks after going 8-0 in the SEC.

One of the really treasured and pleasurable things about being a USC fan is the fun of watching all the Trojan haters squirm and spout and sputter and blow off with vindictive and spiteful palaver. If you can’t beat ‘em on the field, denigrate everyone – the school, the administration, players, coaches – yes, even the band and the dancing girls! Gawd, I love it!!

  • Gabagaba

How many of you trojan fans actually attended USC (for class, not just to park for the games)? How many of you jumped on board once USC started winning games by cheating, claiming to be “life long fans”? Be honest (ya right).

Class of '92, Gabagaba. SC will be back and very shortly I might add, then you can go back to kicking your dog.

This article is a great example of garbage journalism. It's one thing to let it be known that you are not a fan of a specific team, but when you go as far as ripping a player because he stays with a team you despise, that shows a complete lack of journalistic professionalism. Guess the writer will spend the rest of his career in Podunk, USA.

  • LaMont Harris

Are you serious? If anyone was over hyped, it was Mitch. He wasn't even the best player on his high school team. (D. Williams) And yes he was 8-0, but handing the ball to the likes of Darren McFadden and Felix Jones is a job made even for you. So let's stop kidding ourselves thinking this kid is some superstar player. If he was he would be playing right now.

Do you even watch college football….in a previous article you wrote how USC has dissappointed every year since the Bush era….but every year since except for last year they have won the Pac 10 Title and the Rose Bowl…and as far as the 2 year sanction….the last time the NCAA came down on USC was in 2001….2003 they won the Orange Bowl…2 years is nothing….so you might want to study some college football and also work on your grammar….in the same article you wrote “USC 'have' the most 4 and 5 star athletes”…has would have been the right word to use there….so keep writing this garbage and then lock the comments when people who know what they are talking about reply to them…FIGHT ON!

the pac1 is like the 4th best conference. they are below the sec, big12, big10 respectively. take a look at how the teams fared against teams outside their confernce games. all pac1 teams lost in the bowl games, all lost except for 2 teams (ucla, usc). usc played boston college. who the heck are they? usc plays in the 4th strongest conference, they should be winning bcs champs year in and year out, but every single year since reggie bush, they disappointed.

  • modestopress

There's no “I” in “team”. USC had superstars too, but could not get it done. No wonder why PC bolted for the NFL. Is the pressure and teams from the pac1 getting to him soon and fast? perhaps.

  • FightOn310

8-0 in the SEC….let's see….he beat Utah St., Southeast Missouri St., and LA-Monroe….not in the SEC….and the only ranked SEC team he played against was Auburn where he went 7-10 passing which should tell you right there Felix and D-Mac made that win happen….he got no reps against Florida, Tennessee, or LSU…the other Top 25 schools on their schedule….oh, and USC stomped the hell out of Arkansas that year too….so let's not pretend Mitch Mustain was that amazing when he was at Arkansas…so like I said before….do some homework or you will never make it as a Journalist anywhere other than this NOBODY that currently employs you.

  • FightOn310

If they play in the 4th strongest conference then how does that mean they should play for the BCS Title every year….you aren't making any sense….and you keep using last year as an example….if the Big 10 is so great…why do they make it to the BCS Title and get blown out….and with the exception of last year….one of the best Big 10 teams have come to the Rose Bowl and were dominated by USC….most of your argument is based on last season….you need to study back further than a year.

  • modestopress

USC gets all the best talent in Cali and picks the best players nationwide, but still can not make it to the title game. it speaks volume to recruits. why would you want to go to a school that is hyped up every year and every year loses out to a STANFORD-LIKE TEAM!!!! 42 points underdog and they still lost AT HOME!

my arguments is not only based on last season, its based on since reggie left for the NFL. USC had booty and sanchez, who are both great talents, but they still couldn't get the team to the title game. florida, alabama and texas don't lose to a UCLA, or Oregon State or STANFORD. Heck, they win championships!

    SEC, BIG12, BIG10 > PAC1

  • FightOn310

Alabama lost to Utah…a team that isn't in any of the conferences you mentioned….the last National Championship Texas won was against USC when Reggie Bush was there…the Big 10 is weak….USC beat Ohio State at home and at Ohio State….they stomp on Big 10 teams….SEC better than the Pac??? I'll give you that….the Big 12??? It can go either way….but you're not getting the Big 10….you really have no idea when it comes to college football which is why you are writing for Modesto and not a real NorCal paper.

  • modestopress

that year, USC lost to Oregon State, Oregon State lost to Utah, Utah barely beats Alabama; Utah was great that year, i'll give them that.

and for this past season, USC beats THE ohio state, but they got whacked by the Ducks, in return, THE ohio state spanked the duckies in cali, where most of the ducks players are from. so all this cancels everything out. then you must look at the records. THE ohio state had a better record, hence they were better than the Trojans.

Texas went undefeated last year and went to the title game. If mccoy did not get injured, the game would had been different.

Bama ONLY lost to Utah in a “real” meaningful game.
Florida ONLY lost to Ole Miss and Bama in a meaningful game.
USC lost to Oregon, UCLA, Washington, Oregon State (twice), STANFORD (twice, lol!!!) in meaningful games. i'll go out and predict that they lose to another weak pac1 team, maybe washington state (lol).
