WHO: Nearly 400 people from agencies through California will be attending the
14th annual Conference of the Stanislaus County Family & Domestic
Violence Coordinating Council.
WHAT: Media availability featuring internationally recognized expert and local
subject matter expert on the impact of abuse on brain development in
children. The subject of the conference is “The impact of abuse, neglect,
violence and chaos on brain development and the implications across the
lifespan.”
Spokespersons:
Bruce Perry, M.D., Ph.D. is an internationally recognized clinician,
researcher, author and speaker on the subject of children’s mental health. He
has served as a consultant and expert witness on many high-profile incidents
involving traumatized children, including the Columbine High School
massacre, the Oklahoma City bombing, the Waco siege and others. He is the
Founder and Senior Fellow of the ChildTrauma Academy in Houston, Texas.
Janette Garcis from the Haven Women’s Center in Modesto will be
available as a subject matter expert as well.
WHEN: Monday, October 7, 2014. Media will be allowed into the conference at
11:30 a.m. for b-roll acquisition of attendees. Dr. Perry has requested he
not be videotaped while speaking. Dr. Perry and Ms. Garcia will be
available for interviews between 11:50 a.m. and 12:20 p.m.
