Lakers’ Parade 2010 [VIDEO]= Overrated eh, 2 million loud fans?

by Thomas J Andrews on June 21, 2010

The Los Angeles Lakers are celebrating their win over the Boston Celtics in the 2010 NBA Finals with a parade on Monday that starts from the Staples Center to the University of Southern California’s (USC) Galen Center.

Estimates have shown that up to 2 million fans are going to line up along the parade route to cheer on the Lakers. Instead of having a formal interview at the beginning and end of the parade celebration, the Lakers decided to give their speeches during the ride. Perhaps, this was planned in order to inhibit any unruly activity where a large group may incur. After all, we know Lakers fans do have some crazy fans considering that cars were burned on the night that they beat the Celtics in Game 7 of the 2010 NBA Finals thus winning their 16th championship.

Those 2 million fans that are showing up at the parade should be fired or laid off if they are just missing work for this worthless parade. You should not be missing work, if you are working for somebody, just for a parade that lasts a few hours. You can catch it on television or other online outlets. What do you get out of it?

It is so obvious that you are a party pooper and a LAKERS HATER!!!

  • Krazygurl69

Fired, or laid off? Don't you think that's a little extreme?
Sounds to me like you are just another jealous “hater”. Let me guess, Kings fan? Warriors fan? Sorry, but it might be a while before you have a championship parade.

  • Toan7

yeah since i own my own business im sure my clients will go to another vendor in the southbay cuz im taking a whole day off essentially to say “fuck you celtics we got this” and o yeah i think ill lay myself off so i can collect unemployment ahhahahh

  • SFVchik

I live in the Los Angeles county & I'm a Laker fan and seriously the parade is a complete nuisance to the city! There's getting no where in/out or even passing thru LA on the freeways! The night they won…ALL of the local freeway off ramps were closed…I live along the 5 frwy and they shut down ALL of the off ramps due to the ghetto drunk fans trying to cruise the streets throwing up their flags, shooting off guns, and honking at 11 pm. Now on to the parade…same thing once again! If the fans could act like decent human beings that's one thing but they can't! It's no wonder why we don't have a Football team!

  • hendawg

Missing work over a parade is a huge risk. Especially during these hard economic times. If you think Lakers will reimburse you for losing your job, congratulations. You are a tin head.

  • thats whats up!

woohooo!!!!!!!!!!!!! hey, if you don't have a job, why not party? wooo hoo!! wish i was there!

  • 2nd 2 none

Some ppl dont have anything better to do than complain :) if i wasnt the only agent in this office today i would of called in too :)

    real estate scammer?

  • modestopress

lakers spent close to $2 million for this crap! :)

  • modestopress

    hahahaha! funny smart guy, eh?

  • modestopress

FIRE them all! there obligations are to their employers NOT Lakers. Lakers and refs may have something going on. We don't know. Look at a few years back in the Lakers-Kings series. The ref was found gambling!!!! this can be the case too! we just won't know until the dust clears!

  • modestopress

    ha!

  • thats whats up!

why should people who have vacation or sick time be fired? isn't this exact kind of event what that benefit is for? All haters on this page are morons and obviously crying because they are babies. As to the person who whined about the traffic. STFU…..go live somewhere else if you don't like the occasional inconvenience that living in or working in a city brings.

  • Guest

are you crazy like them lakers fans? if i was employing somebody and they missed work for this, i will fire them in a heartbeat.

  • thats whats up!

Well, with your grammar, I would bet you won't be employing anyone soon. My company, like most companies, allows employees to use their vacation time as they fit. Out of approximately 20 million people in the greater Los Angeles area, I am sure some don't have to work on Mondays, or have vacation time and simply decided this was a moment of pride for the city that justified using a vacation day. Of course, many are probably illegal immigrants too…but who cares? WE ARE WORLD CHAMPIONS AGAIN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Bmorehigh

Sound like a typical Laker hater to me.
Your team must suck if u really cant appreciate a parade for a team that won a CHAMPIONSHIP!!!

  • Krazygurl69

Sorry, Modestopress! I thought you were a legitimate writer, but after reading your reply, and noting the numerous grammar and punctuation errors, it's obvious you are not. Let me ask you, what if you had to miss work because of a sick child. Don't you still have an obligation to your employer??? Is it ok to leave work for your family? Work isn't everything. There are times when it's ok to live life, you know. And what the hell does “when the dust clears” mean? What dust? What proof do you have of a conspiracy? Because one ref (Tim Donaghy) got caught gambling over 4 years ago, you automatically assume the Lakers and Celtics game is rigged?
    Get a clue, dude.

  • Guest

  • Guest

you shouldnt miss work for some parade! if you have kids, get ur arse to work so you can feed them.

  • thats whats up!

I guess all these Modesto/Northern California peeps don't realize that big cities have parades when their teams win…I wonder why? Maybe its because those teams up there never win championships?

  • thats whats up!

so, should every winning team's fans wait to celebrate until there is some kind of congressional investigation? As for duty to their employers, what exactly does your company/job contribute to the economy, all you produce is crap articles.

  • modestopress

we got Colorado Rockies minor league team, Modesto Nuts!

  • Missna411

This is so sad to hear that there is still so much racism in this world because of ignorant idots like you. Your in the 20th centruy for f***** sake! Wake up a smell the coffee. If you dont like it then move, THAT EASY!

  • Elizardche

I'd like to take this time to thank all the haters in the world b/c you make moments like this so much more worthwhile. I understand your frustration, I understand that you are upset. Believe me, if it werent the Lakers, I'd be upset also. But the matter at hands does not change, we are the Champions, we will embrace this moment just like if we were any other team. So hold your ankles just for today, take a peak back and watch all the Laker fans ram it up your you know what. Maybe your team will win next year.

  • Elizardche

Its a good thing there is internet blogs where you can express your racist crap w/o getting the crap beat out of you. DowntheBrown is just a coward without a face.

Two Good Reasons for the Laker Parade:
The average working man cannot afford tickets to the Staples Center for their entire family (they average about $100/seat). So, unless you're Jack, the parade gives us a chance to celebrate our heroes for free – we bring our kids, they stand on our shoulders and we celebrate. This is my 10th Laker parade…yes, its a tradition – we dress up in our purple and gold, we invite everyone we know and celebrate.
The parade unites our city. In a city that is both culturally and socio-economically diverse, the Lakers unite us all. Last year I partied with a family from Jordan, and this year I partied with fellow Latino fans…we celebrate nothing else but Laker pride and LA pride…it's beautiful.
I apologize on behalf of all the die hard Laker fans for the traffic issues…but I think the Lakers deserve a parade for their hard work and taking ONE day off to celebrate should be OK…it's a privilege I don't take for granted. THANK YOU 2010 Lakers!

  • Jc_avendano58

fuck all you mexican haters!! yall pushing us close to the edge man with all this racism, there was whites and black the night of the victory but yall want to point fingers cuz yall pussys. we should just kick all you mofo's from Cali. WORD!

Ummm, has anyone heard of vacation time? This is the state of California & it's perfect legal to use your vacation time however you choose to. I took a PAID vacation day today to go see my Lakers @ their parade. It was fantastic & the parade went off without a hitch. A day well spent & I was literally AT HOME an hour after the parade. Traffic was NOT that terrible. GO LAKERS!!!!

  • LOL @ this article?

I'm from an upper middle class family – and although I would never pay for a Lakers ticket, I remain a faithful fan. This was my first parade and I can honestly say that although my friends and I only saw the players for no more than 4 minutes, it was an exhilarating experience that was worth sacrificing some post-college summer sleep for.

By the way, this is a weak article – why is your last point brought up at the very end without any real backing or reasoning? Since when do you care if people take ONE day off to celebrate some team (not to mention, city) pride? Personally offended? Get over it buddy.

  • LOL @ this article?

By the way, to add on to my last comment: If you're so offended that you felt the need to write as weak of a digression as this (if you can even classify it as such, seeing as digressions are at least somewhat respectable), what does that say about you? I would fire your over-sensitive ass in a heartbeat over a Laker fan using valid vacation time to take a single day off…
