Modesto CA: Fatal motorcycle collision investigated at West Orangeburg Ave and College Ave.
On Friday August 23rd at around 8:13 PM a motorcyclist was traveling eastbound on West Orangeburg Ave headed toward the intersection of College Ave. A sport utility type vehicle was traveling westbound on West Orangeburg Ave and was attempting to make a left southbound turn onto College Ave. The motorcycle and the vehicle collided in the intersection. The rider of the motorcycle was ejected off the motorcycle and came to rest in the intersection.
The motorcyclist was transported to a local hospital where he later passed away due to his injuries. He is identified as Donald Lewis Jr., a 42 year old Modesto resident. The driver and two passengers in the other vehicle did not have any injuries.
The motorcycle being ridden was a 1995 Harley Davidson. The sport utility vehicle being driver was a 2013 Ford Edge sport utility vehicle. The motorcyclist was wearing a Department of Transportation (DOT) approved helmet at the time of the collision. Neither alcohol nor drugs appear to be a factor in the collision.
At this time, no fault or cause to this collision has been determined. As a standard procedure, a comprehensive collision investigation has begun and is in the early stages of the process. Witness statements and physical evidence at the scene will be evaluated before any collision factor or cause will be determined.
This is the second motorcycle involved fatal traffic collision in the month of August. On Tuesday on August 6th at approximately 7:58 PM a motorcyclist was killed at the intersection of Standiford Ave and Sherwood Ave. So far in 2013 there have been seven fatal automobile collisions in the City of Modesto.
