City Hosts Special Olympics Final Leg Torch Run

The City of Modesto will host the 6th day Special Olympics Final Leg Torch Run Tour through Cities on Thursday, July 16that 11:00 a.m. The Law Enforcement Torch Run for Special Olympics is the movement’s largest grass-roots fundraiser and public awareness vehicle. At the most basic level the Torch Run is an actual running event, in which officers and athletes run the Flame of Hope to the Opening Ceremonies of the Special Olympics Competition as well as the State, National, and World Games.

The City of Modesto will welcome the Final Leg Torch Runners with a ceremony at the 1010 Tenth Street Plaza that morning at 11:15 a.m. It is anticipated that there will be over 50 runners and accompanying members of the tour as they make their way through selected cities to the 14th Special Olympics World Summer Games which opens July 25th, 2015 in Los Angeles, California. The 2015 Special Olympics World Summer Games in Los Angeles will feature competition in aquatics, gymnastics, track and field, basketball, soccer, and many other summer sports involving over 7,000 Special Olympic Athletes from around the world.
