Modesto, CA– Gang detectives made several arrests in a recent gang related shooting, which occurred inside a market in west Modesto.
The initial shooting happened on Saturday, December 1st, just before 8 P.M. Modesto Police officers were called to Alex and Son’s Market, located at 515 Martin Luther King Drive, on the report of a shooting. When officers arrived, they located a 19-year-old male inside the market suffering from at least one gunshot wound. The suspects had fled prior to officers arriving.
The 19-year-old victim was transported to a local hospital for his critical injuries. A second shooting victim, a 40-year-old male, was outside of the market and it appears he was an innocent bystander who was struck by a stray bullet during the shooting. He was treated for his injuries and later released.
When officers questioned the 19-year-old shooting victim, he was uncooperative and initially told officers he fell while riding his bicycle. Officers located several gun shell casing both inside and outside of the market.
Through investigation, detectives learned the shooting was a result of a conflict between the shooting victim and a group of individuals. The conflict appears to be gang related and both parties involved are rival gang members.
Detectives initially identified 19-year-old Socorro Acosta as being one of the suspects involved in the shooting. Acosta was arrested December 4rd at the Stanislaus County Courthouse, while he attended an unrelated court hearing. Acosta was booked into the Stanislaus County jail for attempted murder and gang enhancement.
Detectives continued in their investigation and today arrested 18-year-old Rudy Luna and a 17-year-old male juvenile. Both Luna and the juvenile were booked into the Stanislaus County Jail for attempted murder and gang enhancement. The three suspects are believed to be members of a Norteño criminal street gang and the 19-year-old shooting victim is believed to be a member of a Sureño criminal street gang, which is a rival to the Norteños.
This evening, the 19-year-old shooting victim remains in critical but stable condition at a local Modesto hospital. Additional arrests may be made as investigators proceed to follow-up on this case. Investigators are still looking to speak to anyone who may have any information on this incident.
